“Time is a precious commodity that we cannot buy back.” – Me (05-19-2017)

When I was younger, I always complained that I don’t have anything to do. I’d play, I’d read, I’d watch the TV, but I still get bored. It feels like time goes by so slow for me, I always wished for time to go faster.

Growing up I realized my dream came true. I have school projects to submit, deadline for this, deadline for that. I always wanted the weekend to last forever but it doesn’t. I guess you only get your wish granted once.

Back then all I wanted to do is to pass time, and then school happens and you never got enough time.

But now I know better. Time is never too fast nor too slow, time does not adjust to our needs, it is not for us nor is it against us. Time is a constant in this universe, it flows continuously, a current that we can never fight.

We should spend our time the best way we can. Some might argue that we should spend time productively, making sure we will have a bright tomorrow by spending our time today. They are not wrong. But is it really the best way to spend time? Surely it is better than spending your time reminiscing the past, holding grudges and plotting vengeance.

The only good thing about the past are the experiences that made us who we are, that taught us the best lessons life could give. They are worth remembering but not to the point where we devote our lives, we use the time that we have now chasing the ghosts of the past.

How should we spend our time? For me we spend it doing what makes us happy without wasting anyone else’s time. Spend time with your family, spend time with your friends, spend time with your beloved. Spend it doing things that you love, enjoy life, enjoy it today for we never know what tomorrow brings.

All the stories, poems, rants, reflections, and everything that will be posted here is inspired by my belief that each person is born free. Freedom to love, to live, to believe,to be happy and the most important of all, the freedom to choose.

We live life not knowing what the future brings, we take risks, we try our best. Sometimes we make mistakes, but then again we learn from them. There are times we fail, but thru failure we strive to improve. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, on both accounts we gain experience.

For every decision we make, for every right and wrong, for every struggle, we may face defeat, we may grasp victory, whatever thru our daily ordeals, we will come out better than we were before.

We are not bound by destiny, we make it.

I will be ending this post with a poem titled “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley:

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
      For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
“I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.”
